New Laws
I served my time in prison.
Seven thousand three hundred days.
When finally my time was through
I tried to just go on my way.
But the state of Georgia wouldn't let me.
They had changed their laws, you see.
So instead of having paid my debt,
I never could be free.
Georgia had made it impossible
to find a job or place to live.
And since I couldn't conform to their laws
a life sentence they would give.
They would pack me away in a prison
to clean up their society.
Because they couldn't have any homeless
cluttering up their streets you see.
