Neverland's Orchestra

We’re a rowdy bunch of misfits
No place to call home
But we salute our captain
Who adopted us all
Here in Never, never Land
We strive not to age
The whole world is our playground
All things are our toys

We are the Lost Boys of this high school
Running through the halls
Led by our fearless leader
The loyal Peter Pan
And we give him our everything
Because he does the same
With this lot he can sympathize
He was once lost, too

Never too young to start a fight
We scared the pirates away
Even the codfish, Captain Hook
Keeps far from our Hollow
Everyone knows we won’t face defeat
The battle is relentless
It turns out so are we

Peter taught us what we did
Came from what we dreamed
Inspiration flows through a pixie, our ever- feisty muse
Who in the face of fire teaches us
To fly
When rough waters come closing in
We rise and soar above
The wreckage on the ground

We fly faster than the eagles
Who think they’re so cool
We’re just a bunch of misfits, but we’re light years from our graves
We’re dorks ’cause we’re in Dorkestra
But they’ll leave knowing our
Names

We’re a rowdy bunch of misfits
We play loud and proud
High school sucks--
We never had to

God bless the misfits. Without them there would be only a mundane existence. Congrats on the feature. Vince

Yes! I was in orchestra when I was in high school. What might be worse - according to modern standards - I played violin. I never felt like a dork. Values were different then. (1947) Ah, but I never felt like one of the crowd either, and never have since. Like you, I thought high school "sucked." Wouldn't you know - I wound up a teacher. Congrats on the selection. daver

Haha, thank you all for commenting! Actually, I was comparing Peter Pan and the Lost Boys to my high school orchestra. And these days I consider "OrkDork" a term of endearment. =D

Annalee, anyone who calls an orchestra member a "dork" will be in for a rude awakening when they leave the Neverland of high school and enter the real world. Music is cool! American Idol rocks with young talent. Those who think they're so cool better learn some skills or they'll end up on the streets. Very meaningful poem. Best wishes, Carolyn
