Notes About The Poem

Never-Always-Sometimes

Never
would it fail
that that child
would have a knack
of waiting
until he hit the sack
before heaving up
a whole day's worth
of snacks,…..splat !!
So much for sheets and new bedspread!

It was always,
this same kid
who declared he had to pee
after you had spent
twenty-five minutes
repairing his zipper
and squeezing his chubby butt cheeks
into his grubby snow suit!

But, sometimes
he would sit in your lap for awhile
at the end of a long day
scrubbed, fresh from the tub
smelling of soap and perfection
yawning without much conviction
filling your heart with emotion
until it could burst with devotion
and then ...
you'd always, always, always, be thankful
that you were his mom

So True Carrie....that's why they always want Mom---"in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, in snow suits or diapers"...Nicely written with some smoothly subtle line breaks that pique the humor and angst of being a MOM. thanks for entering the contest.

Lovely Carrie, but then your writings always are. In the beginning of your poem I thought about the lady in California who had an SUV and her license plate read: PB4UGO
