Notes About The Poem

9/10/2026 for Never Say Never Poetry Contest sponsored by Suzette Richards

never say never

why say, "never say never"?
hope can be the devil's tool
accepting the impossible can give peace
yet, all that was true, one day, isn't true anymore
perhaps
leave a crack in your resolve
for light to get through

A beautifully compact philosophical poem, where the apparent contradiction of “never say never” opens into something quietly humane. The spare, conversational free-verse form gives each turn of thought room to resonate, especially the movement from resignation to the luminous final image: leaving “a crack in your resolve / for light to get through.” The ending feels both tender and hard-won.
