Never Had a Chance

A black and fuzzy face
With mischief in his eyes,
Licked me on my nose,
Then just sort of froze.
Waiting there to see,
If I was going to be
The one he waited for,
The one he would adore.
I never had a chance,
Lost in that first glance.
He's my truest friend,
I'm his to the end.
