Never Blink
My how the time goes by so fast
One day you're cradling them in your arms
Than they sit so proud and tall in your lap
They take their first steps so wobbly and unsure
You watch in anticipation knowing one day
These steps will lead them far from you
Their first words are awesome
So hard to understand
But looking at the expressions upon their faces
As a parent only you can comprehend
One day these voices that have a lot to say
Will carry on conversations with you
Some good some had
Depending on the day
Next they're letting go of your hand
Going off to school
Venturing all by themselves
To learn the golden rules
Many nights you'll spend praying on bended knees
Praying for their protection
To help guide their hearts and minds
To bring strength when they feel rejection
Many silent tears will fall
Out of view from your children's eyes
Either from hateful words they'll shout
Or just from all of your pride in them
All you can do is hope is you did the best you could
To raise a respectful young adult
Who knows how to give back to the the world
All that they have taken
That they never judge another soul
For their beliefs or their stations
In the end when your job feels done
You feel no longer of use
Sit back and cherish the times you had
All that you both have become
For none of this would come to pass
Without an open mind
And the endurance of love
The willingness to never give up
