Neighbors
Neighbors
They moved in across the street.
They..., an old man, and an old woman.
They knew no one, and they were new.
The neighbor saw them come to the house.
She missed her old friend, so much.
Now gone. All gone.
New people come to plant new memories,
in old soil. (softly crying…)
Flowers grow all over the yard,
sunny sunflowers, bright white daisies,
naked ladies (yes folks this is a flower) and new moons…
Birds that fly by, and bees that stay a while…to sing.
The old lady is in the yard.
Her bonnet is bright blue.
If I could just stop crying,
I would go and ask her in.
We could be friends forever too.
The old man out the next day.
Mowing on his riding-green-machine.
“Hey you…, hey you over there.”
“me?”
Mowed my yard, and smiled wide.
Don’t run inside. We are here to stay…
Don’t go away.
Bread from scratch, a prayer or two,
I find my other shoe.
Walk I will, right next door,
across the street and more…
You are so kind, my heart was broken…
You saw clear through me still.
My cookie crumbled, but I’m okay…
New friends are always welcome,
I must say...
on any day!
