Can't help but wonder which bird laid its eggs in another bird's nest. Maybe this happens regularly? I doubt there are many humans who would welcome the orphaned egg/bird into their homes. Compelling thoughts. Hugs, Carolyn

Loved this Harry. I have heard of brood parasites, but don't know more. Will search and find. Nature's No Motherly love... apt title. Nice Tanka. God bless ~ Ani

Interesting work. Interesting bird. We have several birds over here that steal nest and then one called a Brown headed cowbird that lays its eggs in a nest for another bird family to raise. I enjoyed reading your work. Thanks for dropping by my page. Sara

I used to have a few of them, and yes they can be annoying early in the morning, but it is the sign of life welcoming a new day... Great poem, Harry.
