Nameless Child
In a darkened corner unseen,
each sign ignored,
His protectors do not protect for they are too flawed.
The burns on his skin would shock if known,
the curse of a family in which love is not shown.
He does not speak up, does not know it is not right,
taught to take the hit and never to fight.
His classmates think he is odd, a little weird,
They have no awareness to conceive all that he has feared.
His teachers - they do not ask,
no one takes the perpetrators to task.
They have a duty to protect, to listen, to do
before it ends in statistics for another case review.
Withdrawn and quiet, they only care he should behave.
So when will this nameless child be seen?
only when in the grave?
