Notes About The Poem

NAKED TREES AND WINTER COLD

What freaks of nature

They may seem to be:

Tall trees—barked skeletons—

Of well seasoned wood:-

Well seasoned wood,

Piercing the sky,

Casting weird shadows

Across the chilled terrain:-

Their statuesque stillness,

Poised assurance

Of the coming

Spring resurrection:-

If only we too could stand

In such blessed assurance:-
