Naked

The windows shiver
Under the heavy winds
Helpless the curtains fail
And the house is exposed
A table by the window
The cloth over it resists
But is defeated
And then the wood
Lies uncovered
The showers moisten
All of the exterior and
Despite the struggle
Of the windows
Gradually enter
The house with force
The windows drip
Along the wall
The floor gets wet
And so does the table that
Lies changed forever
Unable to move

Entirely wet
And happily naked.

There is a huge, impactful economy to this poem. It makes a great first impression - windows shivering under "heavy winds" - this is a perfect image, evoking tension and interest in the reader. I love the way the poem moves, an inexorable progression. Surely, there are sometimes similar events in our lives?

Yes, Doug, surely. Those events that pass by like a storm, changing everything forever, before one even fathoms what exactly took place. By the way, thank you so much for your encouraging words and for being able to receive the work with the same depth with which I created it.
