Nail Fail

                                        My daughter blessed me,
                                               That's for sure,
                                        She gave me a sweet
                                                 Manicure

                                             My fingernails,
                                             Once a delight,
                                             Were long and
                                         Polished every night

                                            By motherhood
                                      I'd trimmed them back
Nail polish, mostly, they did lack
As I washed dishes stack by stack

Imagine now, how I would smile
To be sporting fake nails for awhile
These nails she'd polished just for me
And glued them on so tenderly

The trouble is? They will not stay,
I just lost two this very day!
I found just one, and now feel worry,
Because I just ate in a hurry...

I felt a crunch, and have a hunch
I may have eaten one for lunch
Maybe this fad is not for me
                                        I polished off a nail...
                                                  Maybe

                                              ? ?
                                                   :(

                                                !!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad you really did not "polish" off your fake nails, BJ, this poem made me laugh out loud, really, you are blessed to have such a loving daughter:)

Oh my, oh me ... love the ending and want to ask, IS IT TRUE? Once in a pool w/ a friend (both in 40s), she yelled 'I've lost my toenail" which isn't something I'd ever heard before, equally funny, she actually tried to find it. I'm not meant to have nails, would only happen if I never typed, cleaned, did dishes, planted, folded clothes, breathed perhaps ... I had a good time.

Yes, it is true, lol! I am pleased that I didn't actually eat the nail! That is SO funny about your friend, lol! I never heard about fake toenails either, I suppose if my daughter hears those are still available she would have another fun hobby to do nails for toes as well :) They are not for me either, I use to have long nails as a teenager, up to the point I became a wife as well as working, then it was done, my nails would break, and I gave up! I thought it was funny how you shared ". I'm not meant to have nails, would only happen if I never typed, cleaned, did dishes, planted, folded clothes, breathed perhaps ..." Same here. Some of those nails I glued back on as they fell off, the last of some of them fell off after a week, others gone the same day they were done! I'm glad that's all done. I am trying to paint my nails though, it was fun to have prettier hands, though not as pretty as my lovely daughter's :)

This was delightful! I giggled. I love and understand the struggle of washing dishes and how this affects the nails! Enjoyed reading you!

Thank you Karen, I'm glad it made you giggle :) I don't want to do the fake nail fun anymore, it was pretty for a little while, but gosh, not for me!

Like Gershon says Bj love the word playing, so nice your daughter was having special time with mom. Such a sweet write, loved reading it...

Aw, thank you so much Michael, it was a fun time spent with my daughter, she is very precious, and always liked playing 'beauty salon' when she was a little girl. For her 13th birthday she invited her friends over for a make-up party, they had so much fun, even though none of them wore much make-up that day, they also enjoyed painting each other's nails. She doesn't have the opportunity to spend much time enjoying such things as a young adult, and we miss our time together. Unfortunately, my fancy fingers were like Cinderella at the ball, by the stroke of twelve, my nails were disappearing and I actually was worried, lol, I honestly feared I ate one, it was just gone, but it made for a fun poem anyway! Thank you for your visit, it is good to see you back!

It was a fun write, and happily I didn't polish it off after all :) A whole new meaning of 'biting one's nails' comes to mind with these acrylic nails. I'm so glad I didn't lose one in my hubby's dinner, bad enough to bite one's own nails, but to have your husband participate unwarily is not at all a pleasant thought. These are not for me! They were fun for the little while they lasted :)

Haha. The end stanza is so funny. I had this kind of nails many years ago. Not for me! I but around the edges when my real nails were growing out!! Today my nails usually grow fairly long since I started eating better.

For me it was diet change that grew my nails and hair. I ate a lot more produce after getting cancer!

I can laugh a bit more now, since I didn't chew my nail, and swallow it, as I had feared! Maybe I should take supplements, I have begun using biotin, as my hair stylist had recommended to me, my real nails never grow quickly and are brittle, and my hair too seemed unhealthy. I think the biotin has really helped my hair anyway :) It was fun having her do my nails, maybe I can simply keep my real ones polished again, these acrylics don't work for me at all!

I got a chuckle out of this. It is so thoughtful of your daughter to do your nails, a kind deed that will be rewarded and also remembered. I enjoyed the humor of the ending of the poem. It made my day. Sara K.

BJ, most of us are so apt to be in the kitchen cooking and cleaning that those kinds of nails don't stay on very well. Sara K.

She is a very sweet daughter, and always very stylish, she designs her nails like an artist, every one of them are beautiful, sometimes with a charm, different strokes of nail polish, simply a lovely young lady, I am so blessed by her wanting to give my own hands an updo of sorts. She works hard at her job, putting in long hours six days a week, usually, and she keeps her nails lovely and secure, but she is required to wear gloves in her line of work, so, that probably makes a difference! I do not have a clue why they will not stay on for me, but I only wear gloves when crafting jewelry, and I am maybe overzealous in hand washing, The nails were fun while they lasted anyway!

It wasn't part of lunch after all, thank goodness, but was found in the kitchen where I had prepared the meal, still a bit alarming. Can you imagine going to the er with a stomachache due to such a thing? Unfortunately, I can, but then nobody ever accused me of not having a vivid imagination...."Is it a gallstone Doc?" Doctor adjusts his eyeglasses, and after clearing his throat begins the prognosis, "No. Your scans indicate that you have what appears to be a fingernail lodged in your gallbladder..." I can imagine the worst sometimes :D

I'm glad I made you smile; it is kind of funny, I will laugh more later, when these things are history :) She is a very sweet daughter, and they were lovely nails, I really loved them at first. I just don't like wondering where in the world they are disappearing to, like into my food, or worse, what I cook for my family, a rather frightening thought to have one tossed in with the salad, I'd hate to have someone ingest one. Thank you for your visit and comment Sotto, you made me smile as well :)

HaHa Loved this BJ I do my own nails with a kit I buy at Walmart. The kits usually come with their own glue but if you run out there is always crazy glue which works well. This one made me smile. God Bless, JB

She bought hers online, and they do stay on her very well. She told me she holds the nails after she puts the glue on for quite some time, squeezing it hard, but was afraid to squeeze my fingers as hard as she does her own :) Well, I guess I'm more brittle, for sure, lol :) Anyway, as a gardener, wife, jewelry crafter, and serious hand washer, I don't know, maybe this just isn't for me after all :) I used some big clippers and cut the long ones down to my usual short nail length, and every time one of these pops off, I'm painting that nail the same color as the fakes They're all short now! Well, I will be using nail polish till the acrylic ones are finally all lost :)

Lol, happily, it was found, so, I didn't polish it off after all :) Honestly, now how do I get the others unglued? Some are popping off on their own while others want to take my real nails with them, ugh! Oh well, at least I didn't eat one :) That is a relief!
