Nachtflug/ Night Flight/ Vuelo Nocturno

Im Nachtflug allein
Am Boden nur spärliche Lichter
Postflug über die Pampa

Exupéry zwischen Himmel und Erde
Einsamer Flug ins stille Nichts

------------------------------------------

Alone in nocturnal flight
Only sparse lights on the ground
Courier flight over the pampa

Exupéry between heaven and earth
Lonely flight into silent nowhere

-------------------------------------------

Solo en vuelo nocturno
Solamente dispersas luces en la tierra
Vuelo correo sobre la pampa

Exupéry entre el cielo y la tierra
Vuelo solitario en la tranquila nada

Note: French pilot and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944) was worldwide famous
for his book Le petit prince (The Little Prince). He was a courier pilot in Argentina and
Northern Africa. During a reconnaissance flight in 1944 he was reported missing over the
Mediterranean Sea

Guess we'll never really know what became of Antoine d Saint Exupery any more than Amelia Aerhardt. These extraordinar people are now legends on which we ponder. Excellent poem, Gert! I really like the way it reads in German, too. Love, Carolyn

I find these incidents extremely sad and can't imagine the emotional drain on the grieving families. Great poem Gert. Thanks for sharing this bit of history. Peace, love, Audrey
