Mystic In America
Arise!
And watch peace pour onto the wet clay of the Earth!
Children of the hour
Trapped in mens hearts
The mystic in America
And all his roaming parts
Those divine and those bounded
Those seen and those hounded
Arise!
But dream!
Dream as you wake!
Feel the sun make light of your worry
You world and your wonder
These fruitless plans and charts
The mystic in America
It is here and always that he starts
The measureless consciousness
The morning's song's sweet evanescence!
Dream!
Dream your day's wakefulness!
And live!
Live all men's glory!
Compassion is the vision of wisdom
In our mind's weaving
Through moonlight and sunlight
Then twixt darklight and lovelight: we part!
But not the Mystic in America
To whom all-light shines a sacred mystery
Where the first baby was born
Where the last man will die
And the light fails to cease
In it's heavenly good-bye.
