My Writing Precedes Me

I wish I had written the poem
That everyone else has been trying to write.
I wish I had written the masterpiece poem
I know is in me, but is not coming forward
To help me out.

My name is not important.
My rank is non-existent.
But my writing, yes, my writing precedes me.
And it shall survive my fleshly death
It shall survive my everything death

It is not that I am stressed, for it is not my way
But I am impatient with the perfect poem I know
Is somewhere inside my dendrite highway
Waiting for permission

But I cannot give that, for after it appears
It will only be downhill, right?

This has been the hope )and struggle) of many artists, not only poets – to write the perfect poem before the evaporate in death. The German poet Rilke waited some 12 years to start writing his masterwork "The Duino Elegies". And did it!!! / Keep writing, one never knows./ M

I feel this way about all of my art; especially my paintings which resemble each other so terrifically, I no longer have to sign them. Everyone who has seen them knows whose they are.

Right! Well...I don't know...maybe there are two or three or a million, maybe...but, then I'm a bit wishy-washey in the mornings.

And you are on vacation, which makes you a bit more lackadaisical.

Thank you JT - I have so many notebooks, I have probably thrown out as many stories as I have kept. Poetry is pretty new for me really.
