Notes About The Poem

This is not a political work of any kind, left, right or center nor is  it connected to any religious or non religious group.                     As  person I value flexibility , innovation,  adaptabiliy,   a range of  quality creative unique products .
My work is a commentary on superfluous matters.

My Worst Enemy Is Choice

My sworn enemy elect, is the constant profusion of illustrative choice,
even though it bestowed to me this shrewd strident voice,
I have unfeigned gratitude aplenty for opulent options but still,
with itemised information excessive without curb I’m ill,
one can sift through a menagerie of bewitching pros and cons,
skewed point of reflection, adopted pose, other folk dons,
diverse argument galore or hairsplitting please beware,
arch devilish trap covert, that sprung sneaky snare, surplus fact monoliths depending on an ultimate decision, shun bogus trendsetting at once with sheer derision, to be visibly cognizant as transparent courses of action, quite vast indeed and mammoth not a minute fraction,
when I commit to redeem there is an element of risk, but unwarranted deferral frowned on, one must be brisk, in the absolute recess of my mind is this constant pressure, to battle with surplus plethora, items novel and fresher,
with such package, pitch, display, slogans and colour,
choice might emerge to boost mood then banish dolour, broad scope “they” unleash, a nod to the downright plausible, the chocolate de luxe editions are they tangibly laudable, it is not for me to magnify an apparent risible matter, pettifogging, quibbling, nitpicking, pointless chatter,
I must insist on venting as a means to a clear path ahead,
yes, to coexist with at many levels trivial confusion instead,
excess products can be such a grandiose glossy term,
whose prevalence a nuisance that makes one often squirm,
but one can perhaps reframe and reconsider a resolute intention,
with the utmost alacrity in the context of apprehension,
drawing up a permanent peace treaty to empower a cessation,
with this fierce opponent choice as permanent extrication

Hello Howard, When I read your poem I thought intellectually razor-sharp critique of modern option overload. It speaks volumes about how we get buried under mountains of reviews, specs, and glossy pitches when trying to make even the simplest decision. It's a marvelous, clever, and profoundly relatable meditation on finding clarity in a world that never stops pitching. Blessings, Daniel

Pettifogging quite an unusual word for my neck of the woods. This one reads like it could be a political work though, Howard. Way to go. 👍. I always like to say, " a person is free until they make a choice, then they are tied to that choice be it a good choice or a bad choice, but they can overcome if they really desire to do so. Sara K.

Oh yes, choices can be such a demon as they tend to frame what comes next in our reality, i absolutely like how you've portrayed different perspectives heres, their kaleidoscopic behaviour and how thoughts overflow in the mind, making uncountable permutations and combinations of the possibility that can unfold.. the language that you've used here is just so vivid, dear Howard! It's such a pleasure reading you always! Best of luck in the contest with this very profound take! Sending light 💫💫⭐🍂

Dear Howard, your wonderful poem gives us a lot to think about when it comes to the endless choices we have. It does a great job of showing how hard it is to make decisions. The vivid and sophisticated language gives the theme more depth. Your beautiful lines make things clearer and help the reader feel more connected. The writing is deep and has a strong style.

An energetic, densely rhymed meditation on the burden of excessive choice. The poem’s richly elevated vocabulary and accumulating catalogue of options convincingly enact the very overwhelm it explores, while the humorous self-awareness keeps the voice engaging. Its formal rhyme lends a lively momentum to a subject many readers will recognise.
