My Wish

I wish I could fly a kite
To let it soar where I can’t go,
To see the heavens where I can’t reach,
To be above things, as I can never climb.

I wish I could tame a bird
To hear stories of places I can never see,
To sing tunes which I can never make,
To chirp, when I can’t smile.

I wish I could make a flower bloom
To touch its softness as I am rough,
To know fragrance, since I stink,
To grasp beauty in my twisted fingers.

I wish I could stay and listen
To sounds nobody hears.
I wish I could stand and applaud
The beauty no one sees.
I wish I could caress
The ones that cry with no sound.
I wish I could clean
All the filth around me

But I am old
Beaten and bored.
Poor and lonely
Sick and foul.

I can’t change
I can’t protest.
I see no hope
For me, or you.

My wishes - my pets,
Stay behind me
To tell a story
Of one who passed making no mark,
Who crumbled into dust, and went with the wind.

Thank you for your kind words. It was my first attempt at poetry as I was getting tired with my novel writing. Poetry seemed like a breath of fresh air after plots that are making me tear my hair out. I am new to poetry, prose being my comfortable zone. I think that is really evident in the verses I write. I am not really an interesting person to know ?? I am a woman who gave up a career in university teaching to focus on family and my writing. I am working on my first novel, having published many short stories. Well I wanted to write a short story but the story just keeps growing and growing frightening me. ?? Your repertoire of poems is fascinating and yes I will use all the poems published here as inspirations to get me back to my twisting plots. Thanks for the sweet words.

Sabrina, Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@

Thank you for welcoming me to your fold. Please do pass any comments you have on what I write. This was my first attempt at verse, prose being my forte. So I really can't say anything on it. I guess I am writing verse more often when I am saddened with something in life. So it's like I laugh in prose while I cry out in verse. I will indeed check out your poems. I am lucky to have gained a friend :)
