Once I sang
without thinking…
songs for no one
just joy spilling out like sunlight.
Now the words stay trapped
and my throat feels like a locked room
but somewhere, faintly, a whisper waits;
a quiet promise that I might sing again..

This has to be the most beautiful of all the entries to my contest. How sad to lose one's tuneful voice! Congrats in my contest

your poem reminds me a bit of my hubby--he at one time sang effortlessly...now he doesn't...sometimes, though, I hear him humming--the promise as you say. nicely done

Thank you so much for sharing that it’s beautiful how even a quiet hum can hold so much meaning.
