My Visitor

Here you are in my view
It was your good looks that drew
You wear a black cap and a white
Cloak around your neck
Upon that tree
Singing to me and then flee
Your song was so charming rapacious and alarming
Perhaps you lost you partner
But if you leave that limb
I promise you will be rewarded
With seeds
And here I stand waiting amongst these weeds
Your eyes look so trusting
Perhaps they were adjusting
To your fond new quest
Would it be more fitting?
If I sent to my request
So still I shall abide
No please don’t hide
My fingers are growing weak
No longer shall I speak
And with a chirp and quick motion
Down he flew
Nervously picking through
I don’t even know if he chewed
My heart was elated
So glad I had waited
To hand feed my little friend
Away he did ascend

(Fact this is a true story about a chickadee I fed by hand!)
