Notes About The Poem

My View On a Poet's Duty

My personal view of MY own poet’s duty is to write for folk who are not too snooty Poetry ‘experts’ may look down their nose at the simple poetry that I compose When I read a poem I don’t want to wallow in archaic language that’s hard to swallow I like lively lines not stuff that’s boring want to enjoy reading and not start snoring I don’t often write about sport or politics But I may write of ‘Ron Dump’s’ latest tricks I just cannot write a romantic sonnet as love poems make me want to vomit I could write about the birds and bees and pretty flowers and wind in the trees But many other poets write similar words so I buck the trend and I write about turds I guess I’ve developed quite a quirky style but my overall aim is to make people smile What’s right for others may not suit me but we can unite by writing our poetry! So who am I to say what’s wrong or right if you get an idea then write, just write! A Poet’s Duty Poetry Contest Sponsor: Beth Evans 10/07/20

We feel the same about Ron Dump and love poems. No surprise there.

If duty bound to turning frowns upside down into smiles. Then surely to me you are Jan River's the undisputed queen of comedy because who else but you could use slack vag in a poem and get away with it. Funny is the best medicine and greatest gift of all

Hi Jan, Bravo, we all have our own style and it would be difficult to change my style also, but each one of us is unique, that is what's made poetry soup so appealing - incidentally, never stop writing as you do, you ALWAYS make me smile! Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Everyone has his ideas and no one should criticise. After all anyone who does not like a poem can skip it. ~~

I think all of your couplets sparkle like diamonds, and the rhyming is perfect. I wish you well in the contest. I read this while listening to Mike Pence telling as many lies and being as interruptive as D. Chump did. I'd much rather read you.

His rudeness by talking past his time limit needs to be controlled by the moderator. All she keeps saying is "Thank you." Frustration with him is beyond my level of tolerance. I guess his puppet master told him to wear a red tie.

aww GW I wish i could give you a hug for that comment, I so appreciate your support I was not sure how my thoughts would be received. I write simple poetry which at times has been slated by some who consider their work to be superior ... but there is room for us all and who are we to judge the work of others:-) hugs jan xx
