My Valentine
My Valentine
February the fourteenth
next week is Valentine's day,
and hope for a better gift
but I think I'll need to pray.
Last year I wasn't impressed
with the roses he gave me.
They were a bunch of plastic
which he probably found free.
My Valentine is a scrooge
doesn't like to spend money.
Although he says he loves me
and calls me dear and honey.
I have sent out subtle hints,
which he'd better take to heart,
diamonds are a girl's best friend
He'll understand – if he's smart.
Valentine's day has arrived,
There's a twinkle in his eye
as he hands me a small box
with red ribbon to untie.
The gift's wrapped to perfection
I wonder what it will be?
Maybe a diamond necklace
that would look perfect on me.
I ripped away the wrapping
for which I had no regards,
and yes, I've received diamonds
in a pack of playing cards!
