My Unique Line - Ad

Three lines from Sonnet 191: "The Waiting Sleep"

I'm drifting with the leaves as they change hue,
concealed among them as they fall to ground.
And as they crumble, I'll be crumbling too. . .

I could never really narrow down to just one
favorite poem or line, so I chose lines from a
sonnet giving my feeling about the 2nd phase
of my life: after 50! Above all things in a poem,
I appreciate imagery and this was me trying
to use unique imagery with personification.

For THE MOST IMPRESSIVE LINE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF ...

I couldn't find a sonnet of yours called "The Waiting Sleep". Is it not on Soup? Maybe under a different name? Just curious, I'd like to read it.

I know it's on here somewhere. . Will have to figure out new title which I may have changed to meet a new challenge requirement. I think crumbling leaves is still defining me!!

I like it, using the crumbling leaves as a metaphor for your own life. I wonder what you would choose 9 years later as your 'most impressive line'?

Woah! I agree. This is real smooth! Are you really over 50 yrs young. You seem 30. That's coming from a 35 yr old man who acts 25 and looks 55! C O N G R A T S!

Very nicely written....and, all too easy to understand at our age. I wanted to say my best line was "Let's make little athletes", which you will recognize from my book. Unfortunately, it was from a short story that wasn't printed here. I like to think of the line as a self-fulfilling prophecy. The kids were super athletes and now both coach. See ya! RAY

Oh yes, excellent use of imagery here, Andrea. As we get older we do feel like we're crumbling and fading away. Seniors deserve more attentionin our society. Very thought provoking lines. Best wishes in PD's contest! Love, Carolyn
