My Therapeutic Place

A tonic for the soul on this fine day To quit the ruminations of the mind, Let barren walls to nature's lure give way And leave life's dull banalities behind. On bended knees I loosen stubborn ground And tackle weeds too long allowed to roam. A robin takes a furtive look around In search of worms to bring back to his home. Above, the tranquil sky is azure blue And chiffon clouds are swiftly giving chase. Red roses burst with stunning bloom anew Entrancing with their fragrant sweet embrace. The garden takes my worldly cares away; A tonic for the soul on this fine day. 20.05.19 Garden Inspirations Poetry Contest Sponsored by: BJ Legros Kelley 'Nature scene orphan sonnet poetry contest' : sponsored by Dale Gregory Cozart Favourite Poem From May, 2019 Poetry Contest : sponsored by Julia Ward

What a beautiful picture you have captured, Wendy! The robin, the sky, the clouds, the roses - even the weeds! - put us squarely into your healing place "on your knees" in the garden. So happy to see this on the winners list. All the best!

I do love your sonnets, my poetess friend. This hearkens to the transcendentalists Thoreau and Longfellow and their love of nature and simplicity of living bringing a balm to the chaotic world. Even the chore of pulling nasty weeds gets us under the azure sky and away from the news, traffic, and ever-buzzing mobile. Congrats on your recent win, and many blessings ~ John

John, you always write such meaningful comments and this one reminds me to dip into the works of the two poets above. Apologies for the delay in replying, I went through a lockdown phase of keeping free of screens and even now am writing very little poetry. Thank you as always for your encouragement.
