My Strongest Belief
My recollections won’t leave me at night;
I will remember a wonderful sight:
It was in spring, and I couldn’t pass by…
Two yellow roses in bloom caught my eye!
I will remember: you stood next to me
Just to admire this couple… But we
Fell for each other; and, loving so long,
You had to fade in the horror of war!
Don’t be afraid! You’ll survive! You’ll survive!
This is the strongest belief of my life!
Though lots of shots are heard day after day,
Fearless angels will not fly away!
Those yellow roses remind me of you,
Of our love that is genuine, true…
That time I did not imagine that grief
Could touch us both… But my strongest belief
Is still with me, and my words do revive:
Don’t be afraid! You’ll survive! You’ll survive!
So, I will save this belief in my heart;
I will keep patient while we are apart;
I will be grateful and faithful to you
When you will have seen this awful war through!
If it’s a lie, you will be murdered fast
And fade away like a cloud of dust.
Oh, I do not want to think any more
Of things that will just bring woe to your door!
Don’t be afraid! You’ll survive! You’ll survive!
This is the strongest belief of my life!
Though lots of shots are heard day after day,
Fearless angels will not fly away!
I feel that you will soon vanquish your foe
And bring a lot of great joy to your home!
But you should also believe in yourself;
Darling, remember the songs on my shelf!
Don’t be afraid! You’ll survive! You’ll survive!
This is the strongest belief of my life!
My friends will tell me: «It’s nonsense, you’re mad!
Flowers that you saw are just your own fad
‘Cause Moscow does not have roses in May…
Yellow will bring separation one day!»
I’ll give my answer: «Then sunlight should bring
Nothing but parting, and no wedding ring
Will sparkle on our fingers one day.
So, I will wait… And, of course, I do say:
“Don’t be afraid! You’ll survive! You’ll survive!
This is the strongest belief of my life!
Angels of victory, flying above,
Will kill the war and defend our love!”»
