Notes About The Poem

My Springtime Walk

hillside is ablaze with glorious golden gorse spring is here at last lambs gambol in fields meadow lush with verdant grass rook collects dry twigs a flash of white tail baby bunny goes to ground hawk flies overhead Written when my homeland went into lockdown for the first time in March 2020 it was glorious sunshine so we walked about 8km and these were my observations submitted on 18th April 2021 to Spring Haiku Chain Poetry Contest All haiku 5,7,5 checked with how many syllables Sponsored by M L Kiser 03/26/20

Beautiful. I hope the lock down helps keep everyone safe and well. We have a very rainy spring, and I treasure every hour of sunshine outside. Walking is good to keep the spirit up.

dear Jan this is utterly charming and to see your glorious images made your words even more special. I really needed this today, as I have been so down and unable to write for a while. Thank you for filling my mind with joy. Take care Jan and keep well. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

I wish more people would eat mutton as there are too many sheep in the roadway! (But it is fun to watch lambs play). You are among the few to enjoy the Quarantine, but what happens after 21-days when Americans and Italians will still be busy infecting the world? Aloha! Rico

so sorry for the delay in replying I have enjoyed lockdown as we are so lucky on our little Island but if we lived in a city and were in a flat then things may have been very different:-( hugs Jan xx

You are so lucky that you can out for a walk. We are in rather total lock down in Spain and my exercise regime has been severely reduced. No bedsores yet, so there is hope. Kind wishes, Kai

Our local park is blooming nicely, Jan. daddodils, hyacinths, violets, and soon forsythis, cherry blossoms, dog wood and magnolias. Carp are swimming in the reflecting pool and baby rabbits are scampering here and there. Wish the scene lasted year round. Appreciated your poem. / M

I'm glad you can get out to enjoy the spring. There are a lot of people in the city that are stuck in an apartment like poor Lin. Great poem! I felt like I was taking a stroll right there with you.

hanks Mike we can still go for walks but the Island is out of bounds to people - no one can get on or off for 21 days except for medical emergencies, we need to stop the virus spreading and getting more cases:-( hugs Jan xx

we are so lucky where we live Ilene we are 5 minutes from the sea and have wonderful walks like we had today. we bumped into some friends who were sitting on a bench having a snack so we stood on the other side of the path and chatted for half an hour. They have just arrested a man from Wales in the Uk who has broken strict quarantine rules and came in on a false name , I hope they throw the book at him - he has been caught and is in court in the morning. they have no planes or passengers on the ferry for 21 days so I guess he will be retained at her majesty's pleasure and then deported!:-) hugs Jan xx
