My Soul
In the reflection of a lake,
One day saw my very own soul,
In shape and form it looked like me,
But in colour as black as coal!
Surprised, I accosted with ‘Hi‘
Nervous, not knowing what to say,
Hoping it was just a bad dream,
would wake up, it would go away!
Soul stared back without interest,
like had been watching me for years,
It appeared both peaceful and calm,
was completely bereft of fears!
We could speak in thought without words,
travelling through the time tunnel,
our memories although the same,
in conscience I felt a villain!
We started at the beginning,
when I was small, my soul was white,
Then through the erring steps of life,
It grew darker with steps not right!
Arriving back at present day,
I could see why it was so black,
In the pursuit of worldly joys
My moral values had lost track!
Wiser, I seek to cleanse my soul,
With a noble deed every day,
Years hence, when I visit the lake,
A whiter soul will come my way!
