My Smile Is Only a Mirage

I laugh but I want to cry
My heart is in so much pain
Like I'm about to just die

I'm not ready to say bye
I need shelter from the rain
I laugh but I want to cry

Please God tell me why
Hurt runs through my veins
Like I'm about to just die

I wish I had you nigh
I'm about to go insane
I laugh but I want to cry

You were a amazing guy
Why did you have to get slain
I laugh but I want to cry
Like I'm about to just die

A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.

The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).

Cry and you cry alone! Even a phony smile returns a smile. Great poem.

Very heart wrenching, yet tenderly expressed. As the great Stevie Wonder said: you brought joy inside my pain. Wonderfully penned, aimed straight for the heart. Very piercing poem. Love always, Alexis. RW

Hi Alexis, i do like the villanelle form and you have used it to fantastic effect in this sad write. The content of this write is wonderful. We feel the emotions deep inside as we read down the page. Such a gentle flow down the page Alexis. This is so well written. Now i am sure there is a beauty in sadness and you have created it here. BRAVO! This Villanelle sings into the heart. Hugs....Mike. XX This has to be a seven and a fave.
