My Skin, a Warning Sign

People warn me That as a girl, I should be careful Of dating guys That aren't white... Me being a white girl, That is... White girls, to them, Are a status symbol; Haven't I noticed That black rappers Like white girls? Yes, well maybe To them blonde hair And pale skin Might look a lot like Gold and silver when Seen under club lighting; Personally, I would like To think that I am More person than Precious metal- My boyfriend's skin Is brown; He views me through Direct sunlight And we talk about Being human- He tells me that He loves me With the lights off- He tells me that I am beautiful When he reads My poetry...
