My Seasons and Their In-Betweens

A time there was that I was caught between
my innocence and an awakening!
I learned of grown-up things. No longer green,
I then had neared the ending of my spring.

Brief was the in-between I next would see -
that time before life’s summer had begun.
I wed at age nineteen. No longer free,
I missed what may have been great college fun!

How short the time before that summer’s heat
would come upon me. I’d spent time abroad
for college, and that time was oh, so sweet,
but being married left me less than awed!

It was a season stifling, long, and hot.
Our children came before I finished school.
A summer of great comfort it was not,
for bad luck and long work hours were not cool!

Of this long season I should not complain,
for there were moments – some of them my best.
The sweet relief of an abundant rain
had come before our children left the nest.

My in-between phase after summer’s time
brought unexpected joy – grand babies too.
I started writing, focusing on rhyme,
and many were the things I got to do.

I think I’m living now my early fall.
I’ve faced the Big C and some other woes.
I much preferred when health issues were small.
How fast the best of in-between time goes!

Yes, I’m in autumn, and I have new fears.
I must embrace fall’s colors while they’re bright.
What comes between the fall and winter years?
I wish that thought could bring me more delight!

The melancholy tones of your poem reveal the many challenges you have gone through to present Andrea. I hope your retirement brings you more joy. You give a lot to others which is sure to return to you. Blessings xxoo

This is a great poem about the loss of innocence. A feeling of melancholy comes through well. Great rhyme and a great, haunted ending.

Well I'm willing to lend some cheer, within your Autumn and winter; I'm in the same Area of Life, so just accept my support and best ' I'm Sure there are so many others here who will Echo this.'
