My Sanctuary

My sanctuary's no private place Nor is it my workplace It's somewhere I go two times every day A community synagogue of men there to pray I enter early morn oft-times before dawn Then again after work when the day has worn on I head for the same table where I always stand Between two of my friends, each one a fine man When we reach silent prayers, I take three steps back Then three steps forward, and I am on track Closing my eyes, I praise God, my Father, our Friend Soon into Nirvana my thoughts and words blend I ask for myself, friends and family as well Life, health, and wisdom wherever we dwell Bowing low to the Lord for the privilege of praying Three steps back, and farewell I am saying To that special sanctuary where dwells the King of the Universe, whose praises we sing August 18, 2020 Sanctuary Poetry Contest Sponsor: Silent One

Gershon, congratulations on your podium placement! This so reminds me of the parallelism of the Psalms - 38, 20, 96 etc.. This is a beautiful example of your active faith. Thank you so much for being a light by sharing your prayers! Blessings! Also reminds me of Ps. 95.

That's the ideal sanctuary for prayer and meditation, Gershon. In your case, a meeting between father and son! ~ Regards // paul

A very nice tribute to your place of worship. If we can't find peace in such a sanctuary, it will never be found.

'G-d's portal' - I love that phrase. Sounds like I may just borrow it for a poem or two. (Soup mail, please) Thanks, Indiana! ~ The Wolf at Your Door

Thank you for such a perceptive and meaningful comment Michael. You are right. It took me a while to find the right place -- until 2009. Since then, I've been very, very fortunate. Thank you again! Sunlight and Serenity, Gershon
