My Safe Haven
I am the girl behind the words,
known in every land for my bleeding ink;
behind self-imposed walls I find safety,
each brick is built with sorrow and betrayal.
Within my strong walls my poems are free birds,
I surround myself with beauty;
music plays in the background, oh so moody,
my writing desk is my only loyal friend.
I dine with my poetry for company,
on the couch my cat is sleeping;
books on many shelves,
and art on walls are my dearest companions;
I want to be invisible.
Invisible,
afraid to leave the protection of my haven;
I want to stay hidden,
and though you reach out in friendship;
your actions speak betrayal,
so I will retreat back into my safe haven . . .
