My Reluctant Acceptance

My dear cat had always been a perfect lady up until cancer gnawed at her insides. She remained sweet but sometimes howled! She had onced purred contentedly on my pillow, but she began to hide beneath the bed - behavior most foreign to my lady! I sorrowed for knowing what needed to be done. Why let my desire to keep her confine her soul to misery? Relunctantly I just let go. . . July 22, 2018 for the Fragmented Verse Poetry Contest of Dear Heart a.k.a. Broken Wings Theme chosen: 5th stage of Grief: Acceptance Syllables just now checked with Howmanysyllables.com

Been there, it is a sad thing to have to face. I like the way you wrote this. Your spacing gave pause to your thoughts and made your last lines powerful and deeply emotional. Very nice write Andrea.

We’ve gone through this with our treasured pets and cancer—so many years that we deserved were stolen from us. Sole comfort: the new pets that replaced them and wormed their way into our lives. Please read my poem: A Passing Shadow, about a cat we lost for whom my heart still aches.
