My Partner's Love

When I lost my partner, I thought I would die, It seemed so unfair, it must be a lie. It had to be my hands that ended his life. A responsibility that cut sharp, like a knife. He was old and In pain, and I had to let go. I had to give back the love that he showed. It was the hardest decision I ever made, The most painful cost of kindness I ever paid. I knew he was staying here to be with me, Beyond my needs and wants I had to see. What I was doing for him was truly the best, It was time to put my partner to rest. When it was over I was lost and alone. There was no one there when I came home. The house was so quiet and in my heart, such a hole. I realized it was time to find a new soul. I would go to the same place that I found him at first. I would go there and find a soul that had seen worse. I would love him and keep him and show him the way, I would give him all I had, every single day. At first I was worried I couldn’t share that love. Then I knew it was the right thing, guided by above. I brought home a new partner that day in July. I saw so much of my old partner when I looked in his eyes. I knew my old partner would wish him to have, All the love and affection that he once had had. I didn’t feel guilty loving again, Another soul I had rescued and was reminded again, It’s not them that I rescue, it’s me in disguise. I reach where I should be as I start to rise. Above the hate, and the greed and all the rest. All I had to do was do my absolute best. To love these animals to the best of my ability, And in return they give me an eternity. Of unconditional love, memories and more. I will never regret the day they each walked through my door.
