My Parallel Universe

I look up at the sky wondering, hoping, praying I see a twinkle, a gleam, a star This star is now my parallel universe, another world A world where I can live freely A world where there is peace Where persecution is a foreign language Not spoken, not mentioned, not understood However, my time in this other world is limited For the sun begins to rise, bringing on the heat of hatred I am now back on this world where reality creeps towards me Showing me the barbed wires, the guards, and the smoke I hear people crying in despair, screaming in pain Instead of a blissful yellow glow, black dread hovers over me But as the days drag on, not knowing which one is my last I have hope, faith, a reason to live My parallel universe A world that is true, sincere, honest Not corrupt, filled with hatred and discrimination I know that one day soon my world and the world I am in now will merge Bringing back the happiness I once had Bringing back the peace and justice that once existed But for now all I have is hope and my parallel universe
