My Oath

So help me God
is not an empty phrase
It has implications
That sometimes would amaze
When we take an oath
It requires special care
Voting with a conscious
With nothing else there
A duty to the people
And some would say to God
No matter what it is
An oath gives matter a pause
We vote with the spirit
and not with the flesh
An oath demands devotion
and not nothing less
It does'nt follow parties
And is fearless of the press
We require an oath of honesty
And trust is all we have left

We have to be vigilant in choosing leaders through our power of franchise. Those who thus come into power through an oath should use their authority for the general good of the people, no matter to which party they belong. Well thought out dear John.

profound and insightful poem....I especially liked 'an oath demands devotion and not nothing less...it doesn't follow parties' I wish that were the reality.
