My Name Is Okie
My name is Okie, and they loved me first;
their full attention to me was disbursed.
Adopted from the shelter, they gave me
a home where I was king, so happy, free.
And then it came one unexpected day,
perhaps a present with which I should play.
Black fur, gold eyes, he was somewhat frisky,
but here to stay, so they named him Nixie.
He ran around and played with my dog tail;
had claws that gripped which I tried to curtail.
But what was worse is how they cuddled him;
attention now for me was rather slim.
But, Nixie settled in, became my friend,
and soon I found, with him, I liked to spend
my time now wrestling, playing hide-and-seek;
my days grew brighter, better, week to week.
I'm part Jack Russell terrier, and he,
a fun black cat who now, I must agree,
is my fine buddy...and at night, we lay
on our soft couch with family...hooray!
