Notes About The Poem

My Name

When I was born, my name was very rare.
In fact, it never has been all the rage!
So I am glad my name is not the same
as many other women of my age.

Not only that, my name is beautiful.
Reflections of one’s soul a name can be!
And so I hope I emulate this name
Mom chose for me, for it means “womanly.”

A delightful Quatrain wonderfully written. I especially like the line "Reflections of one's soul a name can be!", so befitting to you :-) I can't wait to read a companion piece titled "Womanly"'...hint hint...lol Being a beginner, I am aware of the complexities of abiding by a form and this is skillfully penned, it's breezy, bright feel a tribute to your talent Andrea. A joy to read :-) blessings, lynn

You did a great job interpreting SO's contest! Even if time had allowed, I don't know that I would have thought of anything for my name. Your name is rare and beautiful, everyone has heard it, but not everyone has known one. Good job with this poem ... CayCay

I looked up and found "from Old French Andreu (Modern French André), from Late Latin Andreas (source also of Spanish Andrés, Italian Andrea, German Andreas, Swedish and Danish Anders), from Greek Andreas, a personal name equivalent to andreios (adj.)" "Andreas: an Old English poem of 1,722 lines in the Vercelli Book, based on a Latin version of the Greek Apocryphal Acts of Andrew and Matthew amongst the Anthropophagi. "
