My Mother's Eyes - An Epiphany

When did the white start to streak
	the long red tresses that
		fall over my shoulder?

When did my reflection begin
to show a confident woman’s gaze
instead of shy little blue eyes?

When did maturity begin
to sink into the laugh lines
		of this broadening smile?

And when did the wisdom begin
to creep into these deepening crows feet
and start staring back at me
	with my mother’s eyes?

I like your poem. How old is your mother? Mine lived to be almost 97. I wrote a poem about her called Her. Sara

Awh I loved this one - I had an epiphany once while i was in Prison strung out on heroin - Had the outfit in my arm and my life ran through my mind so fast and ended up with me overdosing in Prison and the wreckage it had on everyone who loved me - Long story short I pulled the needle back out without doing the shot and told my homeboys I'm through - Ended up going through withdraws in the hole - Haven't shot any dope since - God Bless, MJ

Maybe the uncomfortable truth intrinsic in this poem makes it have that wow factor. This is so good and well written and evokes a rueful smile. Well done. Regards Heidie
