My Mother Goose Adventures
I gave my picture book a shake,
and then I stepped inside.
Rip Van winkle did awake
and starred at me and cried,
"You're not my lovely bride!"
I saw Humpty Dumpty sitting at a table,
scrambling himself an egg.
But with a cracked shell, he was quite unstable
and rolled down the table's long leg,
now slippery with yolk and nutmeg.
Little Bo Peep was still looking for her sheep.
So I thought I'd help her find them.
I found one asleep
under her long hem,
and I mumbled a red-faced, "Ahem!'
I went to meet the crooked man,
who walked a cooked mile.
But the trail on which I ran
was full of crooked smiles.
So I just laughed and sat awhile!
Remember that old woman living in a shoe
with all those hungry kids?
Well, I took them, three hundred and two,
and fed them plates of shrimp and ribs.
Then I tucked them back into their cribs.
I went to sea with Bobby Shaftoe,
The boy with silver buckles on his knee.
But, I got sick and went heave-ho!
And I know that you'll agree,
home again is the place for me!
