My Mother and Bambi
My Mother and Bambi
Just before Christmas twenty years ago
my mother died, the Eve was a sad affair,
I lived alone in Portugal at the time, but I bought
my dog a big bone, so she was happy.
I couldn`t get a flight home, so I walked around
in a daze, there was a hole that couldn`t be
filled the immense loss.
My dog Bambi, wouldn`t let me alone insisted
we go for walks in the woods where I was chased
by a boar, and today a big boar crossed the road.
Time passes, and grief abates into a fond memory.
Bambi too has gone now I buried her in the woods
between two leaning sandstones, wondered if
I should get another dog but like my mother
my dog could not be replaced.
