My Mother -

my mother -
she is plagued by the disappointment she
has had handed to her
every man that has walked out her front door was
the embodiment of lies
they made promises that were anything
but tangible
but i do not define my mother by
the people who have tried to ruin her
my mother is a warrior taking part in a battle
that has left many wounded
my mother wears her hardships like a string of pearls
because everyone needs to know that she made it
her devotion is a constant in a world where nearly
everything is temporary
my mother is like a ship that has braved one too many
storms and yet she keeps on going
and embraces the next one because she'll be damned
if she'll be taken down by the one thing she's always
survived

This makes this heartfelt poem so optimistic "her devotion is a constant in a world where nearly everything is temporary"
