My Mistake
It’s completely dark
And I have no use for my eyes
But I know she’s here.
I can smell her perfume.
I can feel her presence, her touch.
My heart lights a spark of love
So that I may gasp at the beauty of my Angel
The room comes alive.
My eyes flicker in adjustment
And I see!
But where is she?
She is nowhere to be seen.
Not in front of me, nor behind.
Not beside me, nor above.
What I did was wrong and I know it now
For I illegitimately placed all my trust in it,
In a virtual dream,
A dream that hurt so deeply.
And not because she wasn’t real
Nor for the fact that wanted to believe in it so much
But, merely because
I woke up.
