My Lover
In the dark mist
My lover I kissed.
I tried to resist
But he did persist.
Begun as a tryst,
But then as a twist
I now do exist
To meet, and I wished
That I hadn’t missed
My chance to exist
Each day as his.
Instead I dismissed
His earlier wish
To marry and in love subsist.
I am tied at the wrist
To a man with a fist
Who treats me like property of his.
In nightmares I moan and twist
While in dreams I exist
In the dark mist
With the lover I kissed.
