My love would sometimes wander, and my thoughts would roam freely

My love would sometimes wander, and my thoughts would roam freely, far from the one who held them close and gave my love a home. But I was young and restless, and my heart longed for games, never thinking of the one I might hurt when my love strayed. It's said that those who play with fire will sometimes get burned, and though the lessons were often harsh, in the end, they were learned. For I know my heart belongs here, with the one whose love is true, and if my thoughts were to wander again, they'd always return to you. Just as the wind finds its way back to the sea, so too does my love, weary from wandering, find its way to you, understanding that true peace is found only in your arms, where the fire doesn't burn but warms, where the soul finds rest. And in this stream of consciousness of the heart, I realize that sometimes it takes loss to recognize value, for the shadows of doubt are dispelled by the light of your constant love, and wherever my thoughts may wander, they will return, like birds to home. For my love, which sometimes strayed, has learned to stay, in the warmth you offer, in the peace only you can provide, and if I ever forget, my heart will remind, that its place is right here, with you.
