My Little Dog

My Little Dog

This little dog of mine, now three years old
is sometimes stubborn and independent,
but so like a child,
never wanting or venturing to leave my side.

A constant and faithful companion he reads my mind
and senses my needs, giving him playtime
is a pleasure, although sometimes
desirous of never ending.

These are simple pleasures of catching the ball
and laying out all his toys which he chooses and repeats
in childlike anticipation
of keeping close our bond.

How could a creature so small and undemanding
play such an important role?

By God's design and plan even in our aloneness,
we are given all we need
in
my little dog.
