My Last Wish

My last wish is simple
To lie beside you dear
In eternity’s arms
There to sleep so soundly
Free from earthly alarms.

My last wish is simple
Told you in a whisper,
Writ in my final will
Just as you remember
My promise to fulfill.

My last wish is simple
I could not make plainer,
A six-syllable line
In indelible ink,
It will suffice just fine.

My last wish is simple
To lie beside you dear,
Souls united in bliss
Throughout eternity
After our final kiss.

Excellent ink, i love the rhyme and repeated line scheme, I have never seen this from before Milton and your fine example may tempt me to try, hugs Jan xx

Thank you so much, Jan. I had not come across it either, but when I saw it in "Types of Poetry" thought I'd give it a try. I love the way it sounded, but those six-syllable lines are a bit to come up with. Best of luck to you, Jan. And, again, thanks for the compliment.

My first whack at a Monchielle Stanza. I thought it came out pretty well. Glad to get your comment.

Very beautifully stated last will, sorrowful but full of hope and dedication to the loved one, I always wish you all the best and long and happy life, and may your will be realized.
