My Last Sleep

Could this very sleep I sleep be the one
that I shall not ever awaken from?
Might it be and may it be my last sleep
too deep, too dark to get far away from.

Long I have feared it and long fought it,
faced it, even have run away from...
Now I think, I will lie down half awake
where I am surely safe here to stay some.

If I should not awake, bad turn to take
please recall all the good that I had done.
Weep not, I will rise by next sunrise
within those lives who have not yet begun.

Look for reawakening - find it in
us all - in morning sun, in kind, in kin.
