My Kryptonite Is Popcorn

When dieting, I’m rarely weak. In fact,
I’m Batgirl strong – resisting the allure
of sweet desserts. I’ve never been attacked
by chocolate hunger pangs. I’ve got the cure.
I give myself allowance every day
to taste a little bit of things I crave
since deprivation is the surest way
to get a Superhero sure to cave.

But don’t let popcorn anywhere near me!
The yummy butter smell asSALTS my nose,
and I go crazy, when especially,
nobody else is eating it! Suppose
a bowl of it just sits there? I‘m less strong.
Handfuls of poporn I will keep on getting.
That popcorn you’ll see vanish before long!
I then remove my Batgirl tights . . . regretting.

This truly made me lol. I loved the asSALTS my nose pun (thank you for the caps, or I might have missed it), and I thought the Batgirl metaphor was perfect, especially since we like to see Superheroes in movie theaters where popcorn is a big temptation. I admire your willpower, and agree that little doses of indulgence are more effective than absolute abstinence. I loved the clever ending too. Going in my faves.

Hello Andrea ... it takes a very strong will to turn your face away from something you have craved over a lifetime - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

Your delightful poem, Andrea, sent me straight to the kitchen cupboard + then the microwave. I merrily munched popcorn while browsing poetrysoup. Good thing I can't leave buttery fingerprints on the postings. See how your work inspires! Best wishes always, Brian

Lol, oh yes, this too is my weakness. I was on the exercycle a few days ago burning way too few calories. It was so much faster to eat a bowl full of popcorn. I thought I would die trying to burn up those buttery calories that go directly to my thighs. I sure do love popcorn. Kryptonite though it be, like my sister says when tempting me "This is to die for!!" Hope she's not right!!

I love your play on words here, Andrea, also agree a little of what not to have a day helps, It's years since i had butter popcorn. Not only a great poem, but love the title.

So even Andrea, aka Batgirl has her soft spot! An eloquent confession for which I have the greatest sympathy and with which I am highly entertained.

We like popcorn at our house but since the bout with the COVID virus back in August none of us has much of an appetite. I have a popcorn bowl for the microwave and I use vegetable oil which is supposed to be better for a person but we do buy that movie theater popcorn to pop in the microwave and we do enjoy it from time to time. Thanks for the visit to my page. I appreciate the time spent there. Sara

Very nice, Andrea. Popcorn is a weakness for me. I overindulge, handful-by-handful.

Personally I can do without popcorn. But I don't diet. Give cake or muffins and I never stop. Well at 81 who cares.
