Notes About The Poem

My Imaginary Restaurant

'It's A Small World' Restaurant ~ Hudson Valley, New York

My restaurant makes sense, it's rational...
     the food I serve is multinational;
selected dishes, tasty, lots of fun
     served in a setting that's compared to none.

The dining room's a circular design;
     the floor rotates around and walls align
with landscapes of fine countries of the world
     so diners feel the ambiance while whirled.

From USA's hamburger treats with fries
     to Ireland's rich, delicious shepherd pies,
deep-dish lasagna with Italian wine,
     and bratwurst, spaetzle Germans think divine.

Some soul food choices cooked as African
     American delights browned in the pan,
like chicken, southern fried with black-eyed peas
     and collard greens, a dish that's sure to please.

My Asian menu's served with varied teas,
     from Chinese favorites to Japanese:
Chow Mein, Dim Sum, fried rice and spring rolls too;
     Sushi, Tempura, Niku Jaga stew.

Great Britain's fish and chips, beef wellington,
     or escargot from France; all said and done,
my restaurant draws many people in
     to choose their culture's favorite at whim.

And while they dine, the music plays along
     selected part from each land's special song.
My restaurant makes sense, it's rational...
     with food and spirit multinational.

This is a great poem, which I love. The only 'drawback now is, that I cannot get that 'Its a small small world' tune out of my head for at least a day...Congratulations, Kai

I feel like this could have been set to an old school hip-hop beat and flowed perfectly as a classic masterpiece from Run DMC (I'll confess and say I also enjoyed picturing you up on stage in gangster dress dropping your rhymes) - its a spectacular poem and highlights your ability to speak in different tones and styles convincingly and effectively. Congratulations!

Love your poem, Sandra, and good luck in the contest! I, however, do not like all of these new, hybrid restaurants that offer food from several different countries. (Disney and the 1964 NYC World's Fair excluded.) When I go for Chinese food, I want it from an authentic Chinese establishment -- and, that goes for Italian or any other ethnic cuisine. :-)

Hi, Tom. Thank you for the 'love your poem' and good luck for the contest. Yes, my muse led me in this direction...'imaginary'! I am with you on the 'authentic' ethnic cuisine, especially, Italian...(I am of Italian descent, both sides)! ;) Sandra

I've been to Disney World in Orlando but we did not eat at the restaurant. I'll have the southern please. Although they all sound delicious. Reading about all of this food this morning is making me realize I haven't had my breakfast yet:) Really a fun and enjoyable poem Mrs Sandra. Now I must go eat!
