My Ideation

In the darkness I hold your hand
In the stillness you're unaware
Though you're asleep, I'm afraid to close my eyes
Afraid that when I wake, if I dare
You won't really be there

Whispered confessions to you as you dream
The things I tell you that you never hear
If only my thoughts made a little sense
Maybe I could tell you and make it clear
And maybe my voice would keep you here

I know one day I'll look and you'll be gone
The place beside me empty, the space you left bare
I'll look for your hand in the darkness
In the stillness I'll be afraid to open my eyes and stare
Afraid that when I wake, I'll find you were never really there.
